HARDWICK - Last year's $90,000 crushed stone and oil refurbishment of the dilapidated Hardwick Common sidewalks does not meet state regulations, according to a state panel that has ordered the town to fix the 4-foot-wide paths because the jagged surface is loose and poses a danger.
"The sidewalks must be brought into full compliance with all applicable sections of 521 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulations) by September 1, 2007," wrote Architectural Access Board Chairman Gerald LeBlanc in a decision dated June 7. The board denied a request for a variance that would have kept the crunchy sidewalks as is.
