Move over, Williams-Sonoma. Watch out, Cooks of Crocus Hill. There's a new name in high-end kitchenware in town - Sur La Table.

On Friday, the Seattle-based retail chain (pronounced SIR la TAHBL; French for "on the table") will open its doors on the corner of W. 50th Street and France Avenue S. in Edina. Company officials and enthusiasts say Sur La Table's international flavor and depth of selection will distinguish it from its many competitors in the area. Meanwhile, local kitchenware retailers worry that the new store will draw attention and customers away from smaller, community-oriented establishments.
