Jun. 28--The varsity baseball landscape could change next spring, depending on the outcome of a vote next month at Crete High School.
If the school's curriculum committee votes in favor of adding baseball, Crete would become the 42nd school in Nebraska to play the sport. The Nebraska School Activities Association Board of Control has set 42 as the magic number to split baseball into Class A and Class B.
Currently, all teams compete in Class A.
A total of 39 schools participated in varsity baseball this spring. Norris and South Sioux City have since voted to add the sport for the upcoming school year.
