Jun. 28--President John Adams was right when he said the Fourth of July "ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other."

Simply put, July 4 is the birth date of the United States. On that day in 1776 in Philadelphia, the Second Continental Congress adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence.
