The use of violence in intimate partner relationships continues to plague cultures world-wide, with one in three women being abused over the course of lifetime. Consider the following data:
* One in five adolescent girls report being abused by a dating partner
* The cost of domestic violence (DV) is $5.8 billion/year, $4.1 billion of which is for medical and mental health care
* Complications in pregnancy are significantly higher for abused women
* Children who witness DV are more likely to exhibit behavioral and physical health problems
