Jul. 2--CHESAPEAKE
For 150 ice hockey players Sunday, it wasn't difficult to fathom playing the sport in July.
Sure, it's warm outside. But no matter what month the calendar reads, the goals, the shifts and the flow of the game remain the same.
So does the dream.
The Hampton Roads Whalers, a junior hockey program in Chesapeake, concluded its weekend tryouts Sunday at the Chilled Ponds Ice Complex. Today, training camp will begin for the 75 players who made the cut.
Like other junior hockey clubs, the Whalers cater to those who are looking for extra playing time and exposure.
