ABSTRACT
The major challenge for anyone translating Tamil Dalit writings into English is the inherent seemingly untranslatable resistance of the language of this literature. The linguistic nuances of this literature are of paramount importance and translation can erase the locational differentiations, cultural oppressions, and the resistance. This is made insidious by the fact of one's own non-Dalit identity. One must always be alive to the political charge of both the original writing and one's translational activity.
