Jul. 3--NEWPORT NEWS -- U.S. Rep. Robert C. "Bobby" Scott predicted Monday that Congress would overrule President Bush and earmark $40 million in grant money for drug courts in next year's federal budget.
In a meeting with the Daily Press Editorial Board, Scott said drug courts are an important alternative route through the criminal justice system for drug addicts and a good way to keep people from committing more crimes. "You wonder why the president has eliminated funding for drug courts," Scott said. "We're putting it back in. There is significant support for drug courts."
