Jul. 4--VICTORIA -- Once the rain stops and the rivers and creeks return to their banks, residents will have to deal with a new set of flood-related challenges -- mosquitoes and snakes. And advice on handling the two challenges can be very different. People need to be aggressive in stopping mosquitoes and let live when confronted by snakes, according to the advice of two local officials.
Kevin Stewart, Victoria assistant director of parks and recreation, leads the city's mosquito control efforts. He offered this advice:
