Jul. 5--We all know about apple orchards and pumpkin patches. But did you know there are places to pick currants, gooseberries, grapes, gourds, squash and even okra? You just have to know where and when. Many places rely on word of mouth.
One of them is Rush River Produce in Maiden Rock, Wis., where blueberries, currants and gooseberries are ready for the picking. Terry Cuddy opened the gates this week.
"It gives people a chance to commune with the food rather than going to the grocery store and buying it from a box," says Cuddy.
So far, the season is off to a good start. Plenty of rain this spring helped early summer ...
