Jul. 3--Companies in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate should manage pollution risks by implementing a common risk management system, says an insurance expert.
Historical environmental risks, for example, long-term chemical contamination and toxic gas emissions, were political issues due to the difficulty in pinpointing past causes and responsibility for the cleanup, said Jim Finnamore, senior vice-president for Marsh (Singapore) Pte Ltd, an environmental risk insurer.
It is also difficult to assign liability and accountability for companies that are found to have caused the problems.
