Jul. 5--Cook County Board President Todd Stroger said today that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer months before he was picked by party leaders to be on the ballot in 2006 and that he did not publicly disclose the serious illness because he did not want to compound his mother's woes.
"To be honest, I really did not want to discuss it with my mother while she was going through her problems," Stroger told reporters in reference to his mother's grappling with the serious stroke suffered by his father, then-County Board President John Stroger.
