"We're seeing an epidemic of melanoma--the deadliest form of skin cancer--in young women," says Lynn Schuchter, M.D., an oncologist at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. And the incidence of non-melanoma skin cancer has more than doubled in women under age 40 in less than 30 years, according to recent research from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
