Internet governance was one of the core issues of the 2005 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Tunis (1). The compromise arrangement reached in Tunis basically confirms the role of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the specific responsibilities and controls exercised by the United States. However, individual countries will manage their own country-code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs).
