Aaron J. Sumler lived on the 800 block of 79th Street, near the embattled, predominantly black southeast community, site of most of this year's killings, most of them by gunfire and still unsolved.
Now he's a statistic: No. 19.
His death is significant because it brings the Newport News homicide total so far this year to the total for all of 2006. And July is just beginning.
