Jul. 6--In Vietnam, Tam Le and her parents lived comfortably.

While Tam went to school during the day, her parents ran their own market. And in Da Lat, the town near waterfalls where the family lived in the country's south central highlands, they were surrounded by others who spoke their language and who shared their customs.

But 12 years ago, 6-year-old Tam and her family left their home for the United States. Her parents had one purpose in mind: Tam Le would have the best education they could find.
