WORCESTER - A botched throw on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the seventh allowed East Side to score the game-winning run from first base and defeat Marlboro, 4-3, in American Legion baseball last night.
The end was stunningly quick for Marlboro. Matt Ball led off the inning with a single to right, and Mike Galvin went to the plate with orders from East Side coach Mark Peters to lay down a sacrifice.
After fouling the ball back on his first attempt, Galvin dropped a perfect bunt down the third-base line. Marlboro third baseman Tyler McElman fielded the ball cleanly, but his off-balance throw to first was wild and bounced ...
