Jul. 8--OAKLAND -- With Rich Harden making his first start since mid-April, a small balloon of optimism seemed to float amongst the A's clubhouse and McAfee Coliseum prior to Saturday's game against the visiting Seattle Mariners. And then Felix Hernandez went trotting to the mound with needle in hand.
The Mariners' 21-year-old ace retired 14 of his first 15 batters and allowed just two hits over eight innings as the Mariners pushed the A's further down the AL West standings with a 4-0 victory.
Hernandez is actually becoming quite good at taking the air -- and punch -- out of the A's lineup.
