Jul. 8--San Jose officials have badly underestimated the need for future schools in the city's northern reaches, according to a new report that could add pressure on the city to halt development there until major planning issues are resolved.
The new report from the Santa Clara Unified School District, whose boundaries include portions of North San Jose, estimates that the city's plans to add 32,000 new homes in the area will generate more than 4,000 new students for the school district and thousands more for adjoining districts. That's far more students than city officials have included in their planning documents.
