Jul. 9--SAN FRANCISCO -- It was only 23 years ago, but it seems longer -- possibly owing to the wind chill factor. At a banquet before the most recent All-Star Game to be played in San Francisco, then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein spoke of the day when Candlestick Park might be replaced by a modern, comfortable, destination-style baseball facility.
Only one thing stood in the way, really -- if you discounted the unfavorable political climate and the communal ennui.
"We're looking for an $80 million angel," Feinstein said.
