Jul. 8--GRAINS BEAT COTTON: Texas farmers have planted 900,000 more acres with grain sorghum than last year, according to the National Sorghum Producers, the largest increase in the nation.
Across the country, sorghum acreage is up by 1.2 million acres.
According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, corn is up 19 percent and wheat is up 6 percent.
In contrast, soybean acreage is down 15 percent, but cotton is down even more.
According to Plains Cotton Growers, Texas acres growing upland cotton are down 22 percent from 2006 and down 16 percent from 2005. That makes five million acres in the crop ...
