Jul. 10--A Weld District Judge ruled Monday that a jury may hear statements Mitch Cozad made to police shortly before his arrest last fall.
Cozad, a former backup punter on the University of Northern Colorado football team, is charged with attempted murder and assault in the stabbing of his teammate, starting punter Rafael Mendoza.
He is scheduled to go on trial later this month. If convicted, he could face up to 48 years in prison.
Cozad's defense attorney wanted the judge to block a jury from hearing portions of Cozad's interview with police. Cozad said in court last week that he felt threatened and bullied ...
