SFDA raises threshold for new drug applications

Shanghai. July 11. INTERFAX-CHINA - China's State Food and Drug Administration has raised the bar on "new" drug applications to encourage innovation, a senior SFDA official today.

Wu Zheng, vice director of the SFDA, told a press conference in Beijing that the Provisions for Drug Registration, which comes into its full effect in October, would encourage drug markers to improve technology when developing new drugs as minimal changes to dosage forms or routes of administration would no longer necessarily qualify a drug for new drug status.
