Jul. 10--W hen a familiar poison in antifreeze products -- diethylene glycol -- proved to be a surprisingly common ingredient in Chinese toothpaste, the Food and Drug Administration issued a June 1 advisory urging consumers to dump any and all toothpaste made in China.
In the subsequent dash to the dump, it was revealing to see which institutions were buying toothpaste for as little as 9 cents per tube: prisons, hospitals for the mentally ill, and juvenile detention centers.
But that's not all. Chinese toothpaste also turned out to be just what the doctor ordered for those who served our country and ended up at the Portland VA ...
