Jul. 12--The number of new students who will live in 32,000 new homes planned in North San Jose will be somewhere between the estimates by school district consultants and by city officials. But if you're betting on which is closer, put your money on the school district.
A new report predicts thousands of additional schoolchildren, while city officials' estimate several years ago projected essentially zilch. The school report reinforces the need for a community task force or advisory group to help guide North San Jose's transformation from an industrial park into a livable mixed-use community.
