Jul. 15--Fifty years ago, Raymond Gary was Oklahoma's governor, Allen Street was mayor of Oklahoma City and a fledgling theater company known as the Jewel Box opened its doors to the public. Established as an outreach program of the First Christian Church, the Jewel Box Theatre holds the distinction today as the oldest continuously operating community theater in Oklahoma City.
For 30 of those years, Charles Tweed has served as artistic director and has directed or supervised more than 150 Jewel Box productions. One of Tweed's first tasks was to increase the theater's subscriber base. He thought the best way to do that was to lower ...
