Jul. 15--The horror.
It's not hard to fathom my reaction to Japanese beetles languidly munching a clutch of rose buds in my garden. A quick inspection found a few other lightly infested rose bushes and an assault on my 2-year-old crabapple.
The plants were healthy and pest-free the day before, and I'd been using a three-in-one rose feed/disease/pest control product. Yet my tender and apparently tasty plants were being devoured.
Fighting down the girlish impulse to scream "Ick! Eeek! Ugh!" and run away, I prepared for war.
First, I identified the invader. There are false Japanese beetles and rose chafers, ...
