Local phone service is quickly becoming the next Goliath to be targeted in the increasingly competitive telecommunications industry in Cleveland.
MFS Communications Co. Inc., a Chicago-based firm, and FoneNet, another Chicago company, are in the process of launching local phone service to compete with Ameritech Corp., the former Ohio Bell Telephone Co., in northeast Ohio.
The development will make a wider range of telecommunications options available for local businesses - which are the primary market at which the new phone service is aimed.
And just as the giant long distance companies are fighting over customers in that market, someday a similar battle may be waged for ...
