TEN YEARS AGO W.L. Gore & Associates, the company that made "Gore-Tex" a household word, introduced a unique new guitar string that boasted a thin Teflon coating. Purists scoffed that players would reject anything other than a traditional string. However, engineers and marketing departments at Gore were confident that there would be a market for a coated string that boasted a significantly longer playing life. Events have vindicated the Gore organization, as Elixir strings have gone on to be one of the industry's top selling brands.
