Have you ever taken a bite of chocolate, only to have your taste buds yell, "Hey! This isn't chocolate"?
If you've had this experience, you were probably eating carob. Carob looks like chocolate and can be used to make many of the same foods as chocolate. But nutritionally, carob and chocolate have nothing in common.
Carob has just one-hundredth the amount of fat that chocolate has, and carob has just one-half the calories. Carob is naturally sweet, while chocolate is bitter. (Chocolate candy has to be sweetened with lots of sugar.)
