Because, like all homesteaders, I try to practice the gentle art of husbandry, I have been searching for a way to do the laundry with very little energy and water, and with minimal impact on the land.
I believe I've found it, with my new (for me) 1930 Maytag wringer-washer.
The tub itself is huge, so I can wash everything in it, even 6, by 9, rugs. I no longer have to resort to the "oversized" machines at the laundromat. And it runs on a 1/4 horsepower engine, so it's very economical to operate.
But its best feature lies in doing the week-to-week wash... the clothes and linens. With a mere 40 to 50 gallons of water, I can do a whole week's wash, ...
