A LANDSLIDE victory is confidently predicted for the ZANUPF party, at whose head Robert Mugabe has served as Zimbabwe's leader for 15 years. The campaign for the general election, due on April 8th and 9th, has just started and democrats are watching to see how much freedom is offered to the tiny and divided opposition parties. Habit, not to mention inclination, makes the ruling party behave too often as though it were the only one.
Eight opposition groups have already called for the resignation of the Electoral Supervisory Commission, saying it favours the rulers who appointed it. They want independent observers to oversee the campaigning, polling and vote-counting. ...
