The project to create a pan-European digital library came a step closer with the adoption of an own-initiative report by Marie-Helene Descamps (EPP-ED, France) in the Culture Committee of the European Parliament on 16 July. The library's creation should allow access to Europe's cultural heritage through a "common multilingual portal," says the report. At the same time, "digitisation on a large scale" ensures the safeguarding of European heritage for the future generations.
"The diversity of this library will help [with the creation] of a European identity [...], the culture itself not being a bone of contention," said Descamps after the vote. Such a library ...
