COOS BAY - A 23-year-old Marine and graduate of Coos Bay's Marshfield High School was killed in Iraq, his stepfather said Monday.
Lance Cpl. Steven A. Stacy died Thursday after he was shot in the neck in the town of Karma, about six miles north of Fallujah, said Robert Potts, Stacy's stepfather. Stacy is the 92nd soldier with Oregon ties to have died in Iraq.
Potts didn't know other circumstances of the death, except that Stacy was on patrol at the time of the shooting. Stacy was a member of the 1st Marines, 3rd Battalion, otherwise known as the "Thundering 3rd," said Potts, who lives in Coos Bay.
