Ankara on Jul. 14 fired off its riposte to last month's South Stream accord--inked by Gazprom and Eni on the supply of Russian gas to Bulgaria via the Black Sea, bypassing Turkey--by signing a memo-randum of understand (MOU) with Tehran on the transport of gas from Iran, and from Turkmenistan via Iran, to Europe (WGI Jun.27,p1). The MOU, signed in Ankara, also provides for development of Phases 22-24 of Iran's South Pars gas field by Turkey's state upstream company TPAO.
The MOU is aimed at shoring up additional supply, beyond Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field, to feed the planned 30 billion cubic meter per year (2.9 billion cubic foot per day), Austrian OMV-led ...
