The article "Officials slated for 'slow' recovery plan" (Cape Argus, July 13) suggests that the Western Cape Education Department has been slow to develop a recovery plan following the civil service strike in June.

For the record, the WCED began drafting a recovery plan while the public servants strike was still in progress and started implementing it during the July holiday, in the form of our winter schools.

We are also working with the national Department of Education on implementing the national recovery plan.

We have made it clear that there will further engagement with teacher unions and other stakeholders.
