Jul. 23--A federal appeals court has ruled that plaintiffs alleging racial discrimination by employees at the Dillard's retail store in Columbia have a case and should receive a trial.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals Eighth Circuit ruled 2-1 Friday that the plaintiffs -- black customers of Dillard's from Columbia and surrounding areas -- should receive a trial.
The 13 plaintiffs originally sued in district court in April 2003, alleging that Dillard's employees would discriminate against them while they shopped at the store. Most examples cited in the court's ruling are from the late 1990's and early 2000's.
