Restaurateur spread love of hospitality: WALNUT CREEK: Jasinski introduced French cooking to region at Le Virage.

Jul. 24--Lolek Jasinski, a charismatic Polish immigrant famed in Walnut Creek for serving up first-class French cuisine in his Le Virage restaurant on North Main Street for 34 years, died Friday.

He was 78.

"Lolek has been an integral part of the city, and he was like a local celebrity," said Ed Marinelli, Jasinski's son-in-law, who served as the general manager at Le Virage before it closed two years ago. "When he came here and put escargot, crepes suzette, filet mignon, lobster flambe and cherries jubilee on the menu, people laughed and said, 'This is Walnut Creek. It's a small little quiet town. No one's going to come here to eat ...
