CLEVELAND--Audio Craft took home entertainment on the road many years ago--and long before it came to be called home theater.
The four-store chain started life in the 1960s as a hi-fi specialty store. This was at a time when such stores began to populate the country in large numbers, a trend which reached a peak in the early 1980s.
During the '70s, the emergence of hi-fi stereo as a mass market product started a new era in home entertainment. Many of the hi-fi specialty shops were begun by buffs who knew a lot about the products but not enough about business. So it wasn't long before there were casualties.
