Research: Basics keep institute in the forefront

The Scripps Research Institute gained yet another credit to its list of honors when the respected journal Science recently chose Scripps neuroscientist Dr. Floyd E. Bloom as its new editor in chief.

Biomedical observers say Bloom and Scripps gain new prominence from his association with the peer-reviewed general science magazine, which reaches 143,000 subscribers worldwide.

Cynthia Robbins-Roth, editor of the San Mateo-based biotechnology magazine, BioVenture View, said Bloom's editorship of Science, "puts him in a position to have an impact and be heard at the highest levels of Washington."
