Jul. 26--The price of electricity for residential customers of PPL Electric Utilities will inch up next week under a rate change approved by state regulators on Wednesday.

The bill for the typical homeowner who uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity will increase 4 percent, from $96.52 to $100.20, according to PPL, the Allentown company that owns PPL Electric Utilities.

The change, to take effect Tuesday, is the result of last year's precedent-setting Commonwealth Court ruling on who should shoulder some of the underlying costs of power. After business customers complained their rates were subsidizing residential users, the ...
