Wine allegedly illegally shipped to the East Coast was seized by New Jersey liquor authorities last December, and, later in the month, authorities in Maryland and Pennsylvania confiscated similar shipments. The wine, valued at $100,000, was from Sonoma County wineries and was shipped by Ameripak Express, based in Healdsburg.
Per the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Rep. Frank Riggs, who represents part of the North Coast area, said he is pushing to have wine classified as an agricultural item, and hence not subject to licensed beverage regulations.
