CLEVELAND - Just when it looked like Joel Pineiro was done with the Red Sox, the veteran pitcher has resurfaced in the minor leagues, with hope of returning to Boston soon as a starter.
Pineiro, who was 1-1 with a 5.03 ERA in 31 relief appearances, was designated for assignment on Monday in order to accommodate the promotion of pitcher Jon Lester from Pawtucket. He cleared waivers yesterday and accepted an optional assignment to the PawSox, whom he immediately joined in order to start last night at Toledo. Pineiro pitched well for the PawSox, allowing only one walk in three scoreless innings with one strikeout.
