The health care industry is a study in the juxtapositions of extremes.

We see the extremes of life in our business. We see birth and death, severe suffering and miraculous cures, expensive technologies and indigent patients.

We are maddened by the random mutation of viral particles infecting 20 percent of the population of sub-Saharan Africa, altering the public health improvements that were just beginning to pay off. In the United States, we outspend the world on health care, yet find our own epidemiologic statistics do not match our expenditures.
