Jul. 27--AURORA -- Police on Thursday identified an Aurora woman who was struck and killed by a pickup truck a day earlier during a possible drag race.
Maria Aguirre, 62, of the 100 block of South Lake Street was walking on her block about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when a Ford Ranger left the road, struck her from behind and tossed her into the air.
Police believe the pickup truck was forced from the road by a turquoise mini-van that suddenly switched lanes, possibly while racing with a red sport-utility vehicle. The mini-van and SUV left the scene.
Witnesses told police that the mini-van slowed or stopped momentarily before continuing south on Lake.
