Port Chicago 'family' to get together, remember: Group of former residents plan annual reunion to swap stories about razed town.

Jul. 27--Lyda Davis would like nothing more than to visit the town in which she grew up. But she'll never be able to: Her hometown is gone.

The U.S. Navy bought Port Chicago in the 1960s, and its last residents left in 1969.

Since then, hundreds of former residents, like Davis, have been getting together once a year to share stories about life in the shuttered -- and ultimately bulldozed -- town and to catch up with their former neighbors.

"We get to see old friends. It's like a high school reunion, but more people are involved," Davis said.
