Jul. 27--Hispanic advertising pioneer Teresa A. Zubizarreta, the Cuban-American who founded and led South Florida ad agency Zubi Advertising, died Thursday after a battle with cancer. She was 69.

Mrs. Zubizarreta left Cuba with her husband, Oscar, and son, Joe, in 1960 after Fidel Castro took power. Her daughter, Michelle, was born soon after.

She started her ad agency in 1974 in a rented office in Miami with one phone and a borrowed typewriter, competing with no college degree in a male-dominated business world. Today, the Coral Gables-based company employs 115 people and bills $195 million a year, with clients that ...
