Jul. 27--An eagle putt on his last hole lifted Kansas graduate Chris Thompson to the lowest first-round score in the 12 years of the Cox Classic.
Thompson shot 60 on Thursday, one shot better than Scott Sterling.
Sterling won in February on the Nationwide Tour, but until Thursday he hadn't broken 66 this year. And never shot lower than 69 while missing the cut four straight years at Champions Run.
So how did he flirt with a score in the 50s and shoot a career low?
