Jul. 28--WASHINGTON -- Over the last 25 years, the Federalist Society has grown from a few disgruntled conservative students upset about left-leaning law school professors to a powerful group that counts a Supreme Court justice among its advisers.

To counter that, a group of progressive students started their own group in 2001, hoping to promote the view that the Constitution should be interpreted in a way that takes into account the changing times.
