Jul. 28--These days everyone knows punk-pop band Plain White T's song "Hey There Delilah," as it sits atop Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
But Tom Higgenson, the band's singer/songwriter, says he always knew the song would be a hit, even though it took years to get there.
Higgenson, in a telephone interview from southern Florida, where the band was touring last week, says he wrote the song well before indie label Fearless released it on the Chicago band's 2005 disc "All That We Needed."
Then, it took months before Plain White T's put it up on their MySpace Internet site.
